Repovesi National Park

Repovesi National Park is one of the most popular outdoor destinations in Southern Finland. With its many well-marked trails, it is a particularly popular daytrip destination.

One of the most attractive features of Repovesi National Park is how its own trails are connected with those outside the park leading to Mäntyharju to the north and Kouvola to the south. The relatively hilly terrain, natural forests and small forest lakes explains why it is often referred to as "Little Lapland".

Visitors are free to explore Repovesi National Park by themselves. If you want to spend several days in the park but do not want to sleep in a tent, there is plenty of other accommodation available in and around the park. Inside the park you can rent a Lappish hut or cabin, as well as a sauna. You can also rent equipment and services from local suppliers, such as a canoe, kayak, bicycle, water taxi or guide.

The national park is maintained by Metsähallitus, the state enterprise that administers more than 12 million hectares of state-owned land and water areas in Finland, and it situated between two municipalities: Mäntyharju and Kouvola. The nearest of the two is Kouvola, from where you can get to Repovesi also by bus in summertime. To get to Repovesi from Mäntyharju you can hike, paddle or mountain bike along marked trails or drive.

Entrances

There are three entrances to Repovesi National Park with parking areas: Lapinsalmi (Riippusillantie 55, Kouvola), Saarijärvi (Kuismantie, Kouvola) and Tervajärvi (Kivisilmäntie 720, Kouvola). Lapinsalmi is the most popular of these, especially in summertime.

Maps and connections

Metsähallitus has published an A3 brochure of Repovesi National Park that includes a good map with distances, attractions and local services. More detailed maps of the park can also be purchased from the company Karttakeskus.

Useful information

You can get to the park by water taxi – enquire from Kuutinkolo or SeikkailuviiKari. The "Retkeilijän taksipalvelu" hikers' taxi service operates out of Mäntyharju and can transport also mountain bikes. You can also take the Kultareitti "Golden Route" Cruise from Orilampi. From Repovesi National Park it is possible to paddle to Verla, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
