Taidekeskus Salmela

One of Finland's biggest summertime cultural attractions.

The Art Centre Salmela works to preserve, enliven and utilise the cultural and historically significant environment. Situated in the historical parish village of Mäntyharju by Lake Pyhävesi, Salmela hosts exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events. The exhibition buildings have been taken into use in accordance with UNESCO recommendations and the guidelines of the National Board of Antiquities, and they have undergone extensive renovation work approved by the Board of Antiquities. The exhibition spaces are connected by a lovely landscape park that includes a sculpture park, gazebos and the café-restaurant Kesäheinä, which functions both as an exhibition space and promoter of culinary art.

See Salmela's website for further information about opening hours and a virtual tour.

Useful information

If you are arriving with children, ask for the special activity sheet. The landscape park, the nearby Immo Nature Trail and the local kiosk also attract many families to Salmela. The café-restaurant Kesäheinä has good facilities for children.

The Iso-Pappila Open-Air Museum and Military Dugout Museum are both situated within easy walking distance of Salmela. You can also get there by water.
