Pappilanniemi Route

Description

The forest trails and roads along this route pass through beautiful scenery along the shores of Lake Pyhävesi in the Pappilanniemi and Teerniemi areas of Mäntyharju. In Pappilanniemi the route is also crossed by Nordic walking trails, while in Teerniemi historic fortifications built in 1911-1917 can be found.

Level of difficulty

This route has many climbs and descents. The trails in Teerniemi are very narrow in places with tree roots and rocks. In wet conditions the rocky sections can get very slippery.

The trails in Pappilanniemi are generally wider. For families, the Nuotioniemi lean-to is a good one-day destination. Good hiking boots are recommended, however, as the final descent to the lean-to is very steep. There are thick ropes to help you climb down and up again. You can bypass this section by walking along the trail that follows the shore of the lake from Teerilahti. You can also stick to the main trail but skip the lean-to, as it is located on a headland slightly off the trail.

Tips

  • You can also begin the route from Kurkiniemi and from the water tower in the yard of the daycare centre "Päiväkoti Mustikkatassu".
  • The lean-to is not easily accessible by canoe or kayak due to the very shallow and rocky waters around the headland.
